A business friend stopped me recently and asked me what supplements he should take to improve his cognition and protect his brain.

I paused and blurted out one word: “Move.”

His mouth dropped. What he wanted was a pill over movement and exercise.

Here is the truth. Movement is one of the simplest and most effective ways to support long‑term brain health. It increases blood flow and improves oxygen delivery. Movement also enhances neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to adapt and stay resilient.

Even small amounts of daily activity sharpen cognition. You don’t need to be an athlete; the brain simply functions better when the body moves.

A 2026 systematic review shows that whole‑body exercise increases oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO) in the cortex, meaning more blood flow and oxygen reach the brain during movement. This supports cognitive performance across all age groups.

Sedentary living does the opposite. Long periods of sitting reduce metabolic efficiency, weaken cardiovascular resilience, and decrease circulation to the brain. This affects your focus and mood regulation. Even your long‑term cognitive health.

The evidence is clear: even light walking improves memory and enhances executive function. It also reduces risk factors associated with neurodegenerative decline.

Here is the science…

Peer‑reviewed evidence
• Older adults: Light daily walking improves cognitive and brain function, including memory and executive processes. PMC8681194: https://lnkd.in/gs_jfG6U
• Younger adults: Normal‑pace walking improves executive abilities, demonstrating benefits across age groups. PMC9675135: https://lnkd.in/gbRBT5pn

Movement is medicinal. It costs nothing. Walk. Stretch. Protect your brain. Begin today.

As for my friend… I saw him walking. He told me he walks after lunch for about 20 minutes, 3–4 times a week. He has never felt better.
